Source Spring Launches Bedrock Solutions to Raise Money for High Schools
10 Jun 2011:
Austin, Texas - Source Spring, an application development and investment group, today announced the addition of Bedrock Solutions to its growing portfolio of startups. A partnership with music industry veterans Jan Mirkin and Lisa Hickey, Bedrock’s mission is to empower high school students to raise funds for their schools by selling music online.
Hickey and Mirkin wanted a partner that “understood the music industry but could also help us scale from start-up to a national success,” said Hickey. “Given the budgetary crisis faced by schools there is both an opportunity and a need to make the process of student fundraising more effective,” she continued.
“Traditional school fundraising programs offer items that few parents or donors like to buy and even fewer students like to sell,” states Mellie Price, Founder and Managing Partner of Source Spring. “The Bedrock model offers something that most everyone loves – music – and because there is no inventory it maximizes the funds that go back into the schools.”
Hickey adds, “The Bedrock team represents an extremely unique set of talents and it’s exhilarating to see it all come together in a way that is meaningful and helpful to our community.”
Price, founder of several successful Austin start-ups including Front Gate Tickets and Source Spring Health, is also a founding mentor with start-up accelerator Capital Factory. Lisa Hickey is marketing director at Austin-based C3 Presents, the 3rd largest concert promoter in the US and producer of the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Jan Mirkin is a music industry consultant specializing in artist management, publishing, licensing, and recording, and is founder and CEO of the Equestrian-Network, the world’s largest online equestrian community.
Bedrock Solutions will launch a beta program this summer with students from Pflugerville and Austin Independent School Districts and is accepting public and private high schools for the Fall 2011 semester.
